As someone who has stayed on both the north and south shore in Kauai, I can help you to navigate the pros and cons of both. You can get to the NaPali coast line from either side by boat. Although you cannot get to NaPali by boat from the North Shore in the winter season.

Great proximity to both sides of the mountain and west shore hiking such as Waimea Canyon and helicopter tours
